Taking A Walk

It’s Wednesday and Braden gets out of school at 2pm. Picked him up from school and we headed to McDonald’s for their dollar specials.

We talked about school and homework. He’s got three pages of division that’s due Friday. He said it was too much and he wasn’t going to do it. So our discussion was basically how school prepares students for adulthood. We settled on a look at the homework then a walk down the back road.

When we arrived at his house he pulled out the homework. It really was not as bad as I thought it would be and saw that he was just overwhelmed by what he thought was a massive amount of division.

So before our walk he completed one page. I pointed out to him how easy the other pages really were, so tonight he will do another l/2 page, then tomorrow after school we’ll do the rest before our walk.

The weather was perfect for a walk so we headed out with Brownie towards the back road. Scoobie even joined us and did a good job of keeping up. He has such short legs he has to run while we walk.

This is the back road. The fence is where I saw the “vultures” :)

Braden having some fun.

Here’s my sweetie….gosh she’s six years old now. She ran the whole time, there’s simply no stopping her.

Scoobie and Brownie looking around

We had a great walk….gives Braden a chance to talk and have fun with the dogs.

Hope your day was as great as ours. God bless!

Rescued Wild Cat

My Sweeties for 16 years
*******

This is the scene I came home to every day. Isn't it great!!!

The fluffy one is the mama and all fluff she was. She weighed a little bit of nothing.

The other two were the runts of the litter. I kept them so mama would not be alone. She loved her kittens more than life itself. She was a wild cat and the only way we caught her was to get her kittens. She would not leave her kittens

They all passed within a few months of each other. Mama was close to 20 and the kittens were 16. I do miss them a lot.

They came to my house because the rescued cat I had died suddenly. Evidently he had a heart problem that was not caught during visits to the vet. That's how I get all my pets. Homeless animals seem to know my address and show up just as I lose a current pet.

Before the death of my last kitten homeless Brownie showed up. That's quite a story in itself.

Have a great day and God bless!

Sasha

This is Sasha
I call her a rescue dog because she spent the first three years of her life in a crate. She was owned by a child so the only time she came out of the crate was when and if the child wanted to play with her. Twice a day she was taken outside to do her "duty". Tricia visited one day and fell in love with Sasha and Sasha fell in love with Tricia. Eventually Tricia became Sasha's owner.

This is Sasha's favorite place to be

She's come a long way from the dog that barked at everyone and nipped everyone she could. A "vicious" :) little thing she was! The only person safe from Sasha was Tricia!

Tricia takes Sasha with her everywhere she goes (except work and church, of course). She's taken a lot of time and effort to socialize Sasha with man and beast. Sunday we saw the fruit of her labor. Sasha was an angel! She didn't bark, she didn't nip at anyone and she didn't try to start a fight with Sam and Scooby (Scooby you met in an earlier blog).

As you can see, Sasha is a small dog. She's not much bigger than Braden's cat, Hidey (so named because she was always hiding).

Sasha tried to "play" with Hidey who, incidentally, did not want any part of "play" time. Hidey ran under the bed, behind the couch, under the couch....you get the idea :) It was funny to watch Sasha trying to force Hidey to play with her.

It didn't take long for Hidey to get fed up with Sasha. The next thing we knew Hidey was chasing Sasha.......now THAT was funny!!!

Where's my camera???

Scooby

This is Scooby, a Basset Hound that is loved by all. He has found a place in the hearts of his family and all his neighbors.

A few years ago one of Melissa's neighbors had a Basset Hound that would visit her and stay three or four days. Then she would go home for a day or two and return for another visit of three or four days. Melissa absolutely fell in love with this Basset Hound.

Unfortunately the neighbor moved taking their Basset Hound with them. This started Melissa on a quest to find a Basset Hound of her own. Charlie had his beloved Black Lab, Sam, and Melissa wanted her Basset!

After a long search on the net, looking at lots of pictures, talking to a lot of people, she found "Elvis".

Elvis ended up at a pound and was immediately picked up by Basset Hound Rescue. He ended up with a lady who had eight rescued Bassets who were quite old and most had medical problems. They were not at all happy having a young up-start in their midst. So, after having Elvis in her home for a couple of days she was delighted when Melissa called and requested Elvis. She was so happy, in fact, that she delivered Elvis to her door.

Poor Elvis. He was a very skinny Basset. He also could not ride in a car without getting sick. Poor thing threw up all the way to his new home, a 30 mile drive. Poor baby!

First order of business for this Basset was a bath. That took both Charlie and Melissa to complete that task as he did not want any part of a bath. After the bath it was on to lots of love, food and water!

Next order of business was getting a new name for Elvis. No one liked that name, including Scooby. Lots of names were used until they hit on Scooby. That was the only name he would come to. Call him Scooby and he would come running with his tail just a wagging!

Be careful, he hears the name Elvis he will hang his head and look at you with very sad eyes until you think he is going to cry.

Over time Scooby became the love of the neighborhood. He goes out each day and visits each neighbor for his daily dose of love and, if he's lucky, some treats. Scooby rules the neighborhood with Sam (the Black Lab) coming in a close second.

If you ever decide to get a pet, check out the animal rescues and the local pound. All of my pets have been rescue animals and they have made the best pets.

If you will kindly look to the left you will see a link to animal rescue. If you click on this link once a day you will be donating food for these animals. It's FREE, the advertisers are paying for the food, but you have to CLICK, once a day..

Thanks much and may God bless you beyond measure!
